EquiNet, the network for BME staff at LSBU proudly presents a one-day Black History Month event to inspire and empower through poetry, the creativity of artists, activists and musicians featuring clothing, crafts and skincare, Afghan jewellery by Khateda Omar and ‘skincare by Quanace’. Join us to celebrate Black History Month for the day and help us to create awareness about the contribution of Black and Minority Ethnic communities to the rich and diverse culture of British society. The launch event marks the first of many events taking place at LSBU throughout the year organised by EquiNet.

1.15 pm – Poets’ Corner with Poetic Unity
Join us to listen to Ragz-CV, founder of Poetic Unity, an award-winning lyricist who works with young people developing their creativity and performance skills and is committed to helping the next generation achieve their highest potential. With two of his co-members, Ragz-CV will take us on a thought-provoking lyrical journey exploring life from the outside within.
2pm – Dr Kennetta Hammond Perry
Dr Hammond Perry will speak on the subject of Black British history and her role as the Director of the Stephen Lawrence Centre. Dr Perry has published widely on Black British history, transnational race politics, Black women’s history, and recognition and social justice throughout the African Diaspora.
3pm – Daniella Blechner
Daniella will be speaking about the Power of Telling Our Story and changing the face of publishing. As the Founder of Conscious Dreams Publishing and Book Journey Mentor, Daniella’s mission is to demystify the publishing process and help authors publish books that educate, inspire and empower.
3.45pm – Event summary by Professor Craig Barker, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and sponsor of EquiNet
